Bengal cleric issues fatwa against Modi

January 08, 2017 12:44 am | Updated 12:44 am IST - Kolkata:

A Muslim cleric, considered close to the ruling Trinamool Congress, on Saturday issued a fatwa offering a reward of ₹25 lakh to anyone who will “cut off Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s beard, shave his head and smear him with black ink”.

The fatwa was issued by the Shahi Imam of Tipu Sultan Mosque, Maulana Nurur Rehman Barkati. The statement issued by All India Majlish-e-Shura (Tipu Sultan Mosque) and All India Minority Forum stated that the common man’s suffering was increasing by the day due to demonetisation and most people of India wanted Mamata Banerjee as the PM.

Mr. Barkati said that most people who kept a beard were religious scholars, “but Narendra Modi keeping a beard is an act of falsehood”.
