As many 990 police personnel have been awarded with Police Medals on the occasion of the Independence Day this year.

President’s Police Medal for Gallantry has been awarded to one personnel, Police Medal for Gallantry to 190, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service to 93 personnel and Police Medal for Meritorious Service to 706 personnel, a statement by MHA said.

The CRPF bagged the highest number of gallantry medals with 53 in its kitty, followed by 52 by Andhra Pradesh police and 25 awarded to J&K police.

 

Andhra Pradesh police received the medals for killing 24 members of the banned CPI (Maoist) in an encounter near Jantri in Malkangiri district of Odisha on October 24 last year.

Twenty-nine CISF officials have been decorated with the President’s police medals for distinguished and meritorious service.

Superintendent of Police, NIA, Arvind Digvijay Negi, who is is handling investigations into the case of alleged terror-funding linked to separatist leaders in Kashmir, has been awarded police medal for meritorious service.
