The Election Commission informed the Supreme Court on Wednesday that it requires 70,000 Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly polls. In an affidavit filed before the SC, the poll body said it currently has 53,500 VVPAT units in its possession and is expected to receive 48,000 VVPAT units from Bharat Electronics Limited and Electronics Corporation of India Limited by August 31.
