60 pleas for and against Sanjay

Governor K. Sankaranarayanan has sent to the Maharashtra Home Department 60 representations seeking and opposing clemency to actor Sanjay Dutt, who was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case. .

According to a Raj Bhavan statement on Friday, the Governor sent all representations, he had received from various individuals and organisations, along with a letter to the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) on April 4.

Among these are petitions for pardon from all parts of the country, including from Press Council of India Chairman Markandey Katju. Of the 60 petitions, 25 individuals and organisations have opposed pardon for Mr. Dutt

An earlier petition by Jayaprada, MP, seeking clemency was sent to the Home Department on March 28.
