The Army’s secret operational plans and deployment along the India-China border could have been compromised as a secret document has been untraceable for the past couple of years, informed sources said.
The document, prepared by Tezpur-based 4 Corps, was meant to be sent to Rangia-based 21 Mountain Division a couple of years ago. However, the document went missing within a week of its receipt. At least six Army personnel had been indicted by a Court of Inquiry and they could face disciplinary action, the sources said.
The incident took place during the tenure of General V.K. Singh as Army Chief.
The sources said that at that time, 21 Mountain Division was commanded by Major General N.S. Ghei, who was later promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General. He now commands Bathinda-based 10 Corps along the Pakistan border.
The Army is in the process of developing its capabilities along the border with China. It includes raising additional 90,000 troops under a yet-to-be-raised Mountain Strike Corps.
