The Karnaprayag constituency in Uttarakhand on Thursday registered 57.6% turnout in the Assembly polls.
While voting in 69 of 70 constituencies was held on February 15, the polling in Karnaprayag was postponed following the death of the Bahujan Samaj Party candidate in a road accident.
“Till 5 p.m. the turnout [in Karnaprayag] was 57.6%. The final figure would be released tomorrow [Friday],” Chief Electoral Officer Radha Raturi said.
The polling, which was held across 169 booths, was peaceful, Ms. Raturi said.
The Karnaprayag seat has been in the limelight as it encompasses the Gairsain area where an under-construction Vidhan Sabha building was used by the Congress to attract voters.
The Congress has fielded its sitting MLA Anusuya Prasad Maikhuri in the seat, while the BJP has announced Surendra Singh Negi as its candidate. Mr. Negi had contested as an Independent in the 2012 Assembly polls and lost to Mr. Maikhuri by only 227 votes.
The counting of votes in all 70 seats is scheduled for Saturday.
