Hospital superintendent M.A. Rashid said the babies died because they were under-weight and had breathing problem. “We are trying our best to tackle the situation but we have a weak infrastructure here.” he said.

Earlier, the hospital reported the death of 26 babies in six days from November 11.

Reports of cot deaths have been coming in from various parts of the State recently. While 23 babies died in 10 days since December 15 at Suri Sadar Hospital, 12 died on October 28 at Burdwan Hospital.
