33 file nominations for Presidential polls

June 27, 2012 01:06 am | Updated 01:06 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Returning Officer for the July 19 Presidential polls has received 33 nominations, including that of a Delhi woman Sunita Chaudhary, who has filed two sets of papers. She is the only woman who has filed the papers so far.

Most of those who have filed the papers are non-serious contestants and do not have the mandatory signatures of 50 proposers and 50 seconders belonging to the Electoral College (MPs and MLAs).

Ten of those who filed the papers are from Delhi, including Ms. Chaudhary, who resides at Malviya Nagar here. Those who have filed the papers have also come from far off places like Dharmapuri and Salem in Tamil Nadu, Bangalore in Karnataka and Nalgonda in Andhra Pradesh.

Eight nominations have been rejected at the filing stage itself as they did not include a copy of the relevant page of electoral roll that contained the name of the contestant.

The rest of the 25 nominations have been kept for scrutiny on July 2.

The last date for filing the papers is June 30.
