A special CBI court on Monday postponed the hearing on final arguments in the 2G spectrum case to July.
The decision comes on the request of the accused who include the former Telecom Minister, A. Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi, Dayalu Ammal, wife of DMK president M. Karunanidhi, and 15 others.
The defence lawyer said that since the court was scheduled to hear the additional cases in the spectrum scam next week, it would be better if the arguments were to be heard in continuity. He also said that summer vacation of almost four weeks would begin soon.
Two separate hearingsThe prosecution did not object to the reasoning and Special Judge O.P. Saini accordingly set the date for July 14. The court said there would be two separate hearings in the spectrum case after the courts reopen.
In the last hearing on April 15, the CBI charged that Mr. Raja allegedly misled the then Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, which resulted in benefiting ineligible firms.
Mr. Raja was accused of changing the first-come-first-served basis on which spectrum was supposed to be allotted, to favour ineligible firms like Unitech Wireless (Tamil Nadu) Ltd and Swan Telecom Pvt. Ltd
