The September 23 meeting of the 30-member Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), probing the allocation of 2G Spectrum, has been postponed and its Chairman P.C. Chacko said a new date will be fixed soon.
The meeting, which was about to discuss its final report, has been postponed due to pre-occupation with other important engagements by some of the members and also due to the National Integration Council (NIC) meeting scheduled in Delhi on that day.
Meanwhile, DMK parliamentary party leader and member of the JPC T. R. Baalu told The Hindu that though it was more than 10 days since he wrote a letter to Mr. Chacko, seeking some important documents and letter correspondence on the 2G Spectrum allocation, he was yet to be provided with those papers.
Informed sources in the JPC said, among other things, Mr. Baalu had sought copies of the affidavits filed by the Department of Telecom in the Delhi High Court, in the Supreme Court (in relation to Subramanian Swamy’s petition) and in reply to remarks sought by the Comptroller and Auditor General, all relating to 2G Spectrum allotment.
The DMK has been asking Mr. Chacko to allow its Lok Sabha member and former Communications Minister A. Raja to depose before JPC as he had so much to say about 2G Spectrum allocation. But the party’s request, along with similar pleas made by the CPI and the BJP members of the Committee, has not been met so far.
