25 kilos of poppy straw and hashish seized, two arrested

Two narcotics smugglers were arrested and 25 kilos of poppy straw and hashish was seized from their possession at Nagrota and Kathua in Jammu division, officials said here today.

During checking of a passenger bus near Nagrota, about 12 kms from here, the police recovered 18 kg of poppy straw from a person identified as Ghulam Nabi Wagre of Kokernagar area of Anantnag district yesterday, they said.

The accused, who was on his way from Srinagar to Jammu with the consignment, was taken into custody after the seizure of the narcotics, they said, adding a case has been registered against him under NDPS Act.

In another incident, Omesh Kumar, resident of Gopalganj in Bihar, was taken into custody along with 7 kg of hashish near the railway station in Kathua, about 80-kms from here, last evening, they said.
