Two civilians were killed and 15 injured when CRPF personnel allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on a crowd protesting after an encounter between militants and security forces.

Reports said that after the encounter in Sopore — in which two militants were killed — people took to the streets and raised slogans. The CRPF personnel allegedly fired on the mob, killing two civilians on the spot. They were identified as Shakeel Ahmad and Firdous Ahmad.

Fifteen protesters were injured, with some reportedly in critical condition.

Both factions of the Hurriyat Conference have called for a general strike on Saturday to protest the killings.
