2 die in Bihar as landmine goes off while defusing

A Bihar Military Police constable and a homeguard were killed and nine others, including three journalists, injured when a landmine went off as it was being defused in Bihar’s Gaya district on Saturday.

The constable identified as Anil Singh and others in the BMP Bomb Disposal Squad were defusing the landmine planted by Maoists near Londa village in Imamganj Assembly constituency when it exploded, police sources said.

Besides Mr. Singh, a homeguard was also killed in the explosion, they said.

Six BMP personnel in the bomb-disposal squad and three journalists of private TV channels covering the operation were injured by splinters, the sources said.

The injured were taken to the A.N. Medical College Hospital where condition of two was stated to be critical, they added.
