Two girls were injured after a college student in the Kumrala village in Amroha district’s Gajraula on Monday fired a country-made pistol inside the classroom.
The bullets hit the back of one girl, with whom the gunman Salman had earlier had an argument, and grazed the shoulder of the other.
The girls are being treated at the Anand Hospital here.
Kin threatenedFamilies of the girls were on Wednesday threatened against making a bid to implicate the boy over the incident.
Describing the incident as “serious”, Meerut Senior Superintendent of Police Omkar Singh ordered protection for the victims and their kin. “The local police station has provided security to the girls and their families and will soon catch the culprits,” said Gajraula Circle Officer Nishank Sharma, speaking to The Hindu over phone.
Principal blamedMr. Sharma blamed the college principal for having omitted to inform the police of the girls’ complaint that Salman was bullying them. “Had the principal reported the matter, we would have counselled Salman to behave like a gentleman and not become a law-breaker,” said Mr. Sharma.
