A U.S.A. court will hear on March 19 a motion filed by the Congress seeking dismissal of a human rights violation lawsuit against it in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
U.S. District Judge Robert Sweet ordered that the court would hear the Congress’ motion to dismiss the lawsuit brought against it by rights group Sikh For Justice (SFJ).
Eminent Indian-American Attorney Ravi Batra, who represents the Congress in the U.S., had filed the motion in Manhattan federal court on January 17 seeking an order to dismiss the complaint. Mr. Batra had sought the dismissal citing lack of subject-matter jurisdiction.
