A Court of Inquiry (CoI) of the Army has recommended disciplinary action against 168 personnel, including then commanding officer (CO) of an artillery unit, for their role in a face-off between officers and jawans in May last year at Nyoma in Ladakh.
The Northern Army commander has also confirmed the CoI’s recommendations against three officers, 17 junior commissioned officers (JCOs) and 147 jawans, sources in the Army said on Monday adding disciplinary action may also lead to court martial.
The CoI, held under Brigadier Ajay Talwar, submitted a report to the 14 Corps headquarters in Leh in December last. The personnel were indicted by the CoI under various charges, including arson and assault.
Three officers, including the CO, and eight jawans of 226 Field Regiment were injured in the fracas at the Mahe firing range near Nyoma. The CoI examined 215 witnesses, including five officers, 21 JCOs and 189 jawans.
