15 killed as bus falls into river in Uttarakhand

At least 15 people were killed and eight were missing when a bus on Sunday fell into a swollen Tons river in the hilly Tyuni Market area near here.

District Magistrate Dehra Dun Sachin Kurve said 15 bodies have been recovered and 12 injured people have been rushed to nearby hospitals.

The bus was on its way from Katiyal area to Dehradun when it fell into the river as the driver was negotiating a sharp turn.

Senior police and administrative officials are supervising rescue operation.

“As of now, the bus has not been located,” Mr. Kurve said.

Tons is a tributary of Yamuna river and Tyuni Market is located in the hilly Chakrata area in Dehradun district.

A search is on to find out the eight missing persons. .

“As of now we believe there are still 8 persons who are missing in the accident,” Mr. Kurve said.
