As many as 148 students from the Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) affected districts of Chhattisgarh have cracked the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). Two have already made it to the Indian Institutes of Technology.

These students were enrolled and coached at Prayas, a residential school run by the government at Raipur. It can accommodate 300 students.

Inaugurated in July 2010, Prayas is aimed at training tribal students exclusively from the LWE affected districts of Bastar, Dantewada, Bijapur, Kanker, Rajnandgaon and Sarguja.

The first batch that wrote the examination comprised 222 students ,an official spokesperson said.

At present, 266 students are enrolled in the school and each gets a monthly stipend of Rs. 1,000.

In addition, the government spent Rs. 30,000 per annum for coaching each student, the spokesperson said.
