National Doctors' Day celebrated

As part of National Doctors’ Day celebration, Lions Club of Chitlapakkam inaugurated diploma in optometryand dedicated an ophthalmic screening equipment at Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal, recently.

Lions Clubs International District 324-A6 governor, R. Ponraj Ashok; vice-district governor-I, P. Elangovan; vice-district governor-II, D. Thulasingam; and Lions Club of Chitlapakkam president, C.K. Kumar honoured the doctors of the hospital for their service to the community. Mr. Thulasingam inaugurated the course and distributed the educational materials. This course was started in July 2000. Hundreds of youngsters underwent the training, were awarded the diploma certificate and got placements in many reputed hospitals.

This is a two-year training programme, approved by Bharat Sevak Samaj, for youngsters who have completed Class XII.

Trustees of Rajamma Public Trust and Sree Venugopala Swamigal Charitable Trust Shankar and Saroja Shankar dedicated the Phacoemulsification machine worth Rs.15 lakhs for the benefit of the community. Medical directors of the hospital Ashok Rangarajan and Surendranatha Reddy received the equipment and expressed their gratitude. The trusts have donated a part of the equipment cost.

Trustee of the hospital V. Lakshmanan explained about the hospital activities. Mr. Elangovan and Mr. Thulasingam lauded the services rendered by the hospital. Secretary of the club M. Munusamy proposed a vote of thanks.
