Intelligence officials say a suspected U.S. missile strike has killed four alleged militants in northwestern Pakistan.

They say three missiles struck a vehicle in a village in Datta Khel in the North Waziristan tribal area that is under effective militant control.

The two intelligence officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk on the record to the media.

The targeted area is home to Islamist groups focused on attacking NATO troops across the border in Afghanistan.

The strike was the 17th suspected U.S. missile assault this month in Pakistani tribal regions, the most intense barrage since they began in 2004.
