Mild tremors in Idukki

The Idukki hydroelectric project area in Kerala experienced mild tremors early on Saturday morning.

The tremors were felt in Moolamattom and Uppukunnu areas around 6 a.m. No damage has been reported so far. The power house of the Idukki hydroelectric project, the biggest in the State, is located at Moolamattom.

The termors were so mild that many people living in the area did not notice it. The weather bureau is yet to confirm details of the tremor.

Several tremors had occurred near Konni, not far from the Mullaperiyar dam, on November 2.

Idukki collector Asok Kumar Singh said that the main tremor measured 2.9 on the Richter Scale and the epicenter was somewhere in the Idukki project area.

The Collector said that the he was seeking more details about the tremors and scientific opinion on possible impact of repeated tremours on dams. No damage has been reported from any part of the district.
