Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba and Air Chief Marshal B.S. Dhanoa were among those present.  A "sarva dharma prarthana sabha" (all religion prayer meeting) was held to pay tributes to the "Father of the Nation".

Shubman Gill powers India to U-19 World Cup final

India entered the final of the U-19  cricket  World Cup after thrashing arch-rivals Pakistan by a massive 203 runs in the semifinals in Christchurch. India will now meet Australia in the summit clash on February 3. Opting to bat first, India rod on Shubman Gill’s 102 not out of 94 balls to pile on 272/9 in their allotted 50 overs and then bowled Pakistan out for a mere 69 in just 29.3 overs.

Mahatma Gandhi’s 70th death anniversary

Seventy years after the bullets hit M.K. Gandhi, that murder before prayers is known to more and more people as a fault-line between competing ideas of India.

Gandhi’s assassination still has a bearing not merely on Hindu-Muslim relations and Secularism vs. Hindutva but on the very nature of what it means to be Hindu in the 21st century. However, bitter disputes on all these issues tend of obscure a more vital and urgent question.

From the fourth floor of a striking rainforest-like conservatory built of glass and white steel in downtown Seattle, Amazon.com boss Jeff Bezos turned toward the top of his newest headquarters building to summon his favourite assistant.

In a proud little show on Monday for the media and dignitaries which also doubled as product placement for Amazon’s voice assistant the world’s richest man ordered out loud, symbolically- “Alexa, open The Spheres.”
