TN govt's all-party meet on Cauvery issue

The all-party meet convened by the Tamil Nadu government will discuss the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Cauvery dispute.  The Opposition DMK too attended the meeting at the Secretariat on Thursday.

According to an official release views of leaders of all parties would be sought and the government would take further course of action so that interests of farmers would be safeguarded.

The Gross State Domestic Product of Goa showed a 15.60 per cent growth during 2016-17 when compared to the previous fiscal, according to the Economic Survey report which was tabled today in the Legislative Assembly. The report stated that the GSDP, at constant prices for the year 2016-17, was estimated at Rs 51,692 crore as against Rs 44,717 crore in the year 2015-16, a growth of 15.60 per cent.

Aircel customers on Wednesday queued up at customer care outlets as they were unable to port out of the telecom service provider.  There was a network issue across Tamil Nadu and many users were neither able to make calls nor access the internet.

Tamil Nadu is a crucial market for Aircel and the firm has a customer base of 1.5 crore here. According to TRAI annual report 2015-16, Aircel has a subscriber base of over 87.09 million in the country.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is on a week-long visit to India, visited the Jama Masjid in Delhi on Thursday. On Wednesday, amid tight security Mr. Trudeau, along with his wife and children, visited the Golden Temple. In the visitors’ book, Mr. Trudeau wrote: “What an honour to be well received at such a beautiful, meaningful place. We are filled with grace and humility.” Earlier on February 18, Mr. Trudeau took his family to the Taj Mahal in Agra.

Siti Aisyah of Indonesia and Doan Thi Huong of Vietnam are suspected of smearing Kim Jong Nam’s face with the banned VX nerve agent on Feb. 13 at a crowded airport terminal in Kuala Lumpur, killing him within about 20 minutes. The women say they thought they were playing a harmless prank for a hidden—camera show.

They are accused of wiping VX on Kim's face in an assassination widely thought to have been orchestrated by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Greek lawmakers were voting early Thursday, following an 18-hour debate, on whether to investigate 10 senior politicians, including two former prime ministers, over allegations they were involved in a pharmaceutical bribery scandal.  The allegations follow a judicial investigation into bribes Swiss drugmaker Novartis allegedly paid to boost the sales and prices of its products in Greece.

The politicians named include current central bank governor and former finance minister Yannis Stournaras and Dimitris Avramopoulos, a European commissioner and former health minister

Anna Gasser stood at the top of the big air ramp on Thursday, caught in two minds ahead of her crucial final run. In the end, the Austrian snowboarder changed her planned trick and was rewarded with the first Olympic gold medal in the event. Gasser, who finished 15th in the slopestyle event last week, put down a 96.00 with the final run of the day to snatch gold away from American Jamie Anderson.
