Two Muslim Brotherhood members were killed on Friday in clashes between Egyptian police and supporters of deposed Islamist president Mohamed Morsy, state media reported.
They were killed in Gharbiya province, about 90 km north of the capital Cairo.
The report said members of Morsy’s Muslim Brotherhood exchanged fire with police after they tried to set fire to a police checkpoint on the road that links provincial capital Tanta to al—Mahalla al—Kubra city.
The military ousted Morsy, Egypt’s first democratically elected president, last year following mass protests against his rule.
The authorities have since blamed the Muslim Brotherhood for a wave of attacks, largely against security forces, and declared the group a terrorist organization in December.
