Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Malaysian leader Najib Razak are to meet on the weekend to discuss progress on cooperation related to two air tragedies that hit Malaysia Airlines planes, the Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
Mr. Abbott was scheduled to arrive in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday for a one-day visit.
“High on the agenda is discussions on the status of the two countries’ cooperation in relation to Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370 and flight MH17 incidents,” according to a Foreign Ministry statement. “Both Prime Ministers will also exchange views on regional and international issues of common concern to the countries,” it added.
Australia is leading the search for the Beijing-bound MH370, which disappeared on March 8 and was believed to have crashed in the southern Indian Ocean.
It is also active in an international investigation over the crash of MH17 on July 17 in eastern Ukraine after it was shot down by a missile.
