Syrian fighter jets on Saturday hit areas in eastern Lebanon for the second time in less than a week, the Lebanese police said.
The jets fired at least six rockets in Wadi Hmeid near the Lebanese border area of Arsaal while hunting for opposition fighters fleeing from the nearby Syrian town of al-Kussair, they added. There were no casualties.
Syrian troops and allied Hezbollah fighters took control of al-Kussair on Wednesday after two weeks of fighting against the rebels seeking to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Clashes between Syrian regime forces, backed by Hezbollah, and rebels continued on Saturday on the outskirts of al-Kussair, the Britain-based pro-opposition watchdog Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.
Rebels reportedly use al-Kussair as a supply route from Lebanon.
Hezbollah has openly backed the regime of al-Assad in its deadly crackdown on the opposition, raising fears about dragging Lebanon into Syria’s 26-month conflict.
