A suspected U.S. drone strike has killed six alleged al-Qaida militants in one of the group’s former strongholds in a central Yemeni province, according to a military official.
The official says the attack early on Thursday in the province of Marib targeted a car carrying the suspected militants.
Yemen is on a high state of alert after authorities revealed an al-Qaida plot to target foreign embassies and international shipping lane in the Red Sea.
The U.S. and British embassies have evacuated embassy staff over a threatened attack.
Six U.S. drone strikes over the past 10 days have killed a total of 29 suspected militants.
