Moscow police say an armed teenager burst into his school and killed a security guard and a teacher before being taken into custody.
A police officer and a teacher were killed in the operation, the Russian Interior Ministry said, according to Interfax news agency. The ministry also said that the hostage-taker had been detained.
Earlier reports said that an armed man believed to be the father of a pupil had taken more than 20 students hostage in a school in the north of the Russian capital and that he had injured a policeman when he forced his way inside the school.
