Officials said back-to-back car bombings in a market in central Iraq have killed at least 14 people and wounded 30.

A police officer said three parked car bombs exploded simultaneously on Monday, tearing through a wholesale vegetable and fruit market in the town of Jidaidat al-Shatt in Diala province, some 60 kilometres northeast of Baghdad.

The officer added that the death toll could rise.

Provincial councilman Sadiq al-Husseini confirmed the casualty figure.
