The fugitive tycoon whose company operated the Sewol ferry, which sank in April killing more than 300 people, has been found dead, South Korean police said on Tuesday.
The body of Yoo Byung Eun was found on June 12 in a field in Suncheon, about 415 kilometres south of Seoul, according to police, Yonhap News agency reported.
“DNA samples taken from the badly decomposed body exactly matched those of Yoo,” Woo Hyung Ho, a police chief in Suncheon, told a televised press briefing, Yonhap reported.
Mr. Woo said there was no sign of foul play, adding that the exact timing and cause of death were not known.
“We believe that more detailed forensic analysis and a second autopsy by the National Forensic Service will shed light on other details such as the cause of death,” Mr. Woo said, according to Yonhap .
