Seven people were killed in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City early Tuesday when a fire broke out in the shop-house where they were sleeping, officials said.
The fire started around 2 am in a cosmetic shop under the residence, the city police said in a press briefing.
A passer-by alerted the fire service, but firefighters had difficulty gaining access to the building as it was locked from inside.
The two couples and three children died from asphyxiation, said Colonel Le Tan Buu, director of the city’s fire service.
Initial investigations indicated a short circuit caused the blaze.
