Serbian military helicopter crashes near Belgrade

Officials say a Serbian military helicopter has crashed near Belgrade while evacuating a sick baby from southern Serbia.

The defense ministry did not immediately say whether anyone survived the crash late Friday near Belgrade’s international airport some 30 kilometers (18 miles) west of the capital.

Serbia’s state TV says the MI-17 transport helicopter had four crew members, two medical workers and the 5-day-old baby with life-threatening respiratory problems.

The crash occurred in foggy weather. Several commercial flights which tried to land at the airport had to be rerouted to other destinations because of the poor visibility.
