Police detain Chinese billionaire

Chinese billionaire investor Wang Gongquan was detained by police from his Beijing apartment on Friday, Chinese media reported.

Mr. Wang, 52, was taken away by police at 11.30 a.m. on suspicion of disturbing public order, the >Chinadaily.com reported citing >ifeng.com .

“More than 20 policemen confronted the 52-year-old venture capitalist at his home in Beijing and took him away,” the South China Morning Post quoted Teng Biao, an activist and a lecturer at the University of Politics and Law in Beijing, as saying.

“The policemen told Wang that he was being summoned for questioning on suspicion of gathering a crowd to disturb order in public places,” Mr. Teng said.

Mr. Wang, co-founder of CDH Investments, attracted major attention on China’s micro blog sites after announcing his plan to elope with his mistress Wang Qin in May 2011, the >Chinadaily.com said.

Wang Qin is the founder of Jiangsu Zhongfu Science and Technology Industrial Group.
