July 29, 2014 05:42 pm | Updated 05:42 pm IST - MEXICO CITY

A strong earthquake has shaken eastern Mexico, but there are no immediate reports of damage or injury.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude-6.3 quake was centered in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz, about 418 kilometres east-southeast of Mexico City. The epicentre was relatively deep, 95 kilometres below the surface.

Local news media in Veracruz reported the quake was felt strongly there, and it rocked buildings at least as far away as Mexico City.
