Kenyan Police fired tear gas on crowds who gathered in support of Prime Minister Raila Odinga in the capital on Saturday.

Mr. Odinga planned to file a case in the Supreme Court on Saturday over what he alleged was a “massive fraud” during the country’s March 4 election which Uhuru Kenyatta won with 50.07 per cent of the votes. Saturday is the last day Mr. Odinga can file a petition to protest the result.

Kenya’s election has been largely peaceful, unlike the 2007 vote that sparked two months of violence that killed more than 1,000 people.

The police had warned Mr. Odinga supporters that they would not be allowed to gather on Saturday. An Associated Press reporter at the scene said the supporters were not demonstrating or being violent when they were tear-gassed.
