Action film star Jackie Chan told Chinese state media that he feels ashamed of his son, who has been indicted by Beijing prosecutors on the charge of sheltering others to use drugs.

Jackie Chan told Xinhua on Tuesday that he did not use his connections to interfere with the case and that he hopes his son will become an anti-drug ambassador when released.

The arrest of Jaycee Chan has been embarrassing for Jackie Chan, who was named by Beijing as an anti-drug ambassador in 2009.

The younger Chan was detained in August in his Beijing apartment. If convicted, he could be jailed for up to three years.
