Italy has recalled its Ambassador to India, in an escalation of the diplomatic row over the prosecution of two marines charged with shooting dead fishermen off the Kerala coast in 2012.

Daniele Mancini was ordered to return home immediately for consultations after India’s Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned hearings on the case by a week — a delay Rome said displays “India’s obvious incapacity to manage the situation.”

Basant Gupta, India’s ambassador to Rome, was also summoned to the Foreign Office, and formally conveyed Foreign Minister Emma Bonino’s concerns.

New Delhi declined official comment on the issue. But, a senior External Affairs Ministry official told The Hindu he was “mystified” by the Italian decision. Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta said last week that the possible trial of the marines under the anti-piracy legislation was “unacceptable.”

I wonder why no one is investigating the reason for the presence of the ship near Thiruvananthapuram temple. What exactly is the reason for positioning the vessel there whereas lots of other waters available in India peninsular??

Little bit more patience Italy. Your senior officials making such statements might play well with the local audience, but will make it difficult for officials in India to deal with you. The phenomenon of public sentiment is common for both countries. Do not keep making such statements and blow this matter up to such an extent that it becomes counter productive. Please do not conduct your diplomacy in public.

And your soldiers killed two Indian civilians. They have to be punished. They cannot be let go just because they are Italian soldiers. They were either trigger happy or just too incompetent. It is not the fault of the Indian fishermen that they are dead now.

P.S. I think there might be a typo in the quote.
'nation and which can not propagate to the entire international community'...should it be 'can now propagate' ???

Justice no doubt should be speedy. Nobody should have to wait for
justice. It should also be as per Indian Law.
