The International Criminal Court has rejected a bid by lawyers for Kenya’s president to halt his trial on charges that he orchestrated deadly violence after his country’s 2007 elections.
Lawyers for President Uhuru Kenyatta had called for a “permanent stay” in the case, claiming that prosecutors are “presiding over an utterly corrupt and dishonest case.” Mr. Kenyatta insists he is innocent.
Judges rejected the argument Thursday, meaning Mr. Kenyatta’s trial will go ahead as planned on Feb. 5.
Kenya recently failed in a bid to have the U.N. Security Council delay the case by a year.
