Security officials in Lebanon said a Hezbollah military commander wanted by the FBI has been killed in Syria while fighting alongside President Bashar Assad’s forces against rebels trying to overthrow him.

The officials said on Wednesday that the Hezbollah commander, Fawzi Ayoub, was killed in combat in Syria last week.

Ayoub, also known as Abu Abbas, was a dual Lebanese and Canadian citizen. He was wanted on charges of attempting to use a forged U.S. passport to enter Israel.
