Denmark will send seven F-16 fighter jets to take part in airstrikes on the militant Islamic State in Iraq, Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt said.

The Danish fighter jets will “operate in Iraqi airspace but not in Syria,” she said.

The government will seek fast-track legislation in Parliament next week for approval of the deployment.

Denmark is also investigating a request to send soldiers to train Iraqi and Kurdish ground forces.
