Chinese state media said a court has sentenced three men to death and a woman to life in prison after a one-day trial for organising and carrying out a knife attack that killed 31 people outside a railway station in the southern city of Kunming.

China Central Television said on Friday that Iskandar Ehet, Turgun Tohtunyaz, and Hasayn Muhammad were convicted of organising and leading the terror group. Patigul Tohti, a female assailant captured on the scene, was found guilty of participating in the group. All four were convicted of murder.

The court in Kunming said in a statement that the group had plotted the March 1 attack, although Ehet, Tohtunyaz and Muhammad were captured two days earlier while trying to flee the country.
