Following the arrest of Faizal Shahzad, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Tuesday assured the U.S. full cooperation in the investigations.

The issue came up for discussion when a U.S. delegation met Mr. Qureshi in connection with the ongoing Pakistan visit of the American Ambassador in India, Tim Roemer. According to U.S. Embassy officials here, Ambassador Anne Patterson mentioned the arrest of the Pakistani-American in the bombing attempt and both sides decided to work jointly on the investigation.

U.S. Embassy officials maintained that Ms. Patterson had not called on Mr. Qureshi specifically to discuss the issue but raised the matter during the meeting that had been scheduled in advance as part of the series of interactions lined up for Mr. Roemer with the senior leadership of the country including President Asif Ali Zardari.

U.S. also secured promise of cooperation from the Interior Ministry with Mr. Malik telling mediapersons that the government would begin work on this front once it received details through official channels.
