Yemen said on Saturday that it would not tolerate terrorist elements on its territories, a day after a Somali Islamist group announced they would send militants to the country to reinforce the al-Qaeda branch there.

Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Bakr Abdullah al-Kurbi said the country would be on guard against anyone attempting to undermine its security and stability, state-run Saba news agency reported.

The top Yemeni diplomat also expressed surprise at Friday’s statement made by Somalia’s hardline Islamist rebel group of Al Shabaab. The group said it was ready to send militants to help their “brothers,” in reference to the al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the Yemen branch of the terrorist group, which was recently struck by Yemeni forces.
