The U.S. has expressed its deepest condolences to victims of the massive earthquake in China that has so far claimed over 600 lives and offered help in the rebuilding process.
“We send our deepest condolences to families of the victims of the earthquake in China’s Qinghai province. The American people are saddened by the loss of life and the devastation caused by this disaster,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said in a statement.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those injured or displaced, and all the people of China in this difficult period. We stand ready to assist in any way possible,” he said.
On behalf of the American people, I offer sincere condolences to the families who lost loved ones in this morning’s earthquake in China’s southern Qinghai Province, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those injured or displaced, and all the people of China on this difficult day.
The U.S. stands ready to assist,” Ms. Clinton said.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi said, “As Americans and as members of the international community, we must stand squarely behind the emergency response operations and rescue missions.”
Together, we can help the people of this region recover from this tragedy, Pelosi said in a statement.
“The thoughts and prayers of Members of Congress are with the people of China and Tibet, and the loved ones of those lost in the powerful earthquake that struck the region yesterday,” Ms. Pelosi said.
