Britain's Guardian newspaper says one of its correspondents went missing in Libya along with a Brazilian journalist travelling with him.
The Guardian said on Thursday that correspondent Ghaith Abdul Ahad was last in touch through a third party on Sunday, when he was on the outskirts of Zawiyah, a city west of Libya's capital that has seen battles in recent days.
Middle East Editor Ian Black says Abdul Ahad - an Iraqi - was travelling with a Andrei Netto of the Brazilian newspaper Estado, who is also missing.
Mr. Black says the Guardian has been in contact with Libyan government officials in Tripoli and London and asked them to urgently help in the search for Mr. Abdul Ahad and to establish if he is in the custody of the authorities.
