Two men — Barjinder Singh Sangha (33) and Mandeep Singh Sandhu (34) — were on Monday charged in connection with last week’s murderous attack on Lt. Gen. (retired) K. S. Brar in London.
They were charged with “wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm” to General Brar.
Sangha was also charged with “common assault’’ on Gen Brar’s wife, Meena, who was with him when the attack took place. She was roughed up when she tried to intervene.
They were produced at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London and remanded to police custody.
Police did not disclose any other details about the two men except that Sangha was from Wolverhampton, a city in the West Midlands; and Sandhu lived in Birmingham.
They were among the 12 arrested, 10 of whom were later released on bail.
Police repeated their appeal for witnesses to come forward if they had any information that could help the investigations.
General Brar was attacked by four men when he and his wife were returning to their hotel in Oxford Street after dinner on the night of September 30.
Police said the assailants were of “Asian appearance” and had “long beards”. They wore dark clothes and long black jackets.
General Brar alleged that Khalistani sympathizers were behind the attack which he called a “pure assassination attempt” for his role in the 1984 Operation Blue Star to remove militants from the Golden Temple complex.
Meanwhile, police said a 27-year-old man has been picked up from a residential address in west London and was being questioned.
