They were being held on suspicion of conspiracy to murder

October 05, 2012 02:48 am | Updated November 17, 2021 04:52 am IST - LONDON:

In a major breakthrough, three persons — including a woman — have been arrested in connection with the stabbing of Lt. Gen. (retired) K.S. Brar in Central London on Sunday.

Police did not disclose their names or ethnicity.

A spokesman said the men were in their 30s and the woman was 40. They were being held on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

In a statement, Scotland Yard said: “One man aged 33 and the woman aged 40 were arrested at a residential address in Wolverhampton. Another man in his 30s was arrested after his car was stopped on a street in West Bromwich. All three are being taken to a central London police station where they will be interviewed by detectives. Inquiries are ongoing and police continue to appeal for information into the incident.”

General Brar suffered injuries on his face and the neck when he was attacked by four men when he and his wife were returning to their hotel near Oxford Street after dinner. He described it as a “pure assassination attempt” by Khalistani sympathisers for his role in the controversial Operation Blue Star in 1984 to flush out militants from the Golden Temple Complex.
