Taseer case: judge goes on indefinite leave

October 05, 2011 12:25 am | Updated November 17, 2021 12:29 am IST - ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistani judge who awarded the death sentence to the assassin of former Punjab Governor Salman Taseer is reported to have gone on indefinite leave after lawyers attacked his courtroom and a spate of protests and death threats.

Since Saturday — when Taseer's assassin Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri — was awarded the death sentence on two counts of murder and terrorism, the judge of the Anti-Terrorism Court, Parvez Ali Shah, has been receiving death threats with some fundamentalist organisations also announcing huge rewards for anyone who kills him.
