Thirty Taliban fighters were killed and around 35 injured when helicopter gunships pounded militant positions in several parts of the restive Orakzai tribal region in northwest Pakistan on Sunday.

The gunships targeted militant hideouts at Khadezai, Mamonzai and Dabori areas of Orakzai Agency, official sources said.

Military officials have claimed that over 700 militants have been killed since an operation was launched in Orakzai Agency.
