An Afghan official says Taliban fighters have attacked a police security post in central Ghazni province, killing eight local police on Wednesday night.
Arif Noori, spokesman for the provincial governor, said on Thursday the insurgents attacked from four sides using heavy weapons, including artillery, and also wounding another in a two-hour attack.
Government reinforcement reached the area too late to stop the attack, Mr. Noori said.
9 killed, militant says
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement, and said nine local police were killed and one other captured in the attack
